Covering Furniture with Glass

Is it worth it?

There are several things to consider when deciding whether to cover your furniture with glass to protect it.

  1. How much did the furniture cost?
  2. Is it new or used?
  3. What is the furniture used for?
  4. Do you have children?
  5. Are you a coaster person?

Furniture is something that can last decades or as little as less than a year. If you bought your desk or table at a cheap discount store for less than $50 it may not be worth it to cover it with glass. If you paid $50 for something that someone paid $150 for than it would make sense because even after adding the glass it's still going to be less than buying a new one, and you will get a lot longer life out of the furniture than you would if it is left uncovered. With new furniture, if you spend more than $100 and you want it to hold its value for years than it is definitely worth it to cover the furniture with glass. I have heard so many people say that they never considered covering their furniture with glass because it's so expensive, but you would be surprised at how little it costs to protect your investment.

Kids make messes, it's just part of life, but why should your furniture suffer and you pay the price. When drinks or food are spilled onto a table or desk the moisture can be left behind to erode the furniture even after it has been cleaned. How many people do you know that have had children draw with crayons on walls or furniture when a parent isn't looking. I personally know several. The great thing about glass is that you can clean pretty much anything off of it!

Coasters, everybody knows about them but not everyone uses them. Do you feel like your nagging every time you have to ask someone to use a coaster or you have tried using coasters but can't seem to get into the habit? With glass covering your furniture you won't have to worry any more.

Glass does not allow for penetration into the covered area. Not only do you save on the cost of having to buy something new sooner than later, you also save on all the headache that goes with getting new furniture; the shopping, then having it delivered, getting rid of the old furniture, and moving stuff out of the way to be able to get your new furniture into position. It costs less to protect your current furniture than you would probably spend on gas trying to find another one!
