Storefront Door Repair

When you own a business the first point of contact with a customer is through the front door. Problems with the door can potentially give customers a negative first impression of your company. Here is an overview of the issues that can arise with your storefront doors and the typical reasons behind the problems.

Dragging Door
Doors that drag on the ground can be very aggravating for customers and employees because it takes unnecessary time and energy to push and pull the door open and closed. If you have a door that is dragging it could be that the pivot(s) needs to be adjusted or potentially replaced, the door is coming apart because of additions such as Mag Locks, or occasionally the glass on the door needs to be re-racked.

Door Is Not Locking
Businesses typically keep everything they need inside the building and a door that doesn’t lock can be a huge cause for concern. There are several potential reasons why a door would not lock properly. The door may be misaligned, a panic device may be malfunctioning, the top hat needs adjustment, or the lock has failed. The most worrisome reason would be if the structure is decaying causing the doors to sit incorrectly which at that point a contractor and an architect would need to get involved.

Leaking

Water coming into the building can be nerve wrecking not only because it’s a sign of a problem, but it can also cause damage to the flooring. If you have water coming into the building from the doors it could be that you need to replace your door sweeps or rain drips, the glass may need to be re-caulked or resealed, or you may need to have the threshold or frame reattached.

Door Will Not Close
Business doors are designed with closers so when you walk through the door you don’t have to pull the door shut behind you allowing for you to walk in and out freely. When we are used to not having to worry about the door closing behind us it is easy to leave and not look back which can be a problem if there is an issue with the door closing properly. The main reason that a door would not close properly is that the door closer needs to be adjusted or has failed. Fluid on the closer is an indication that an adjustment would not fix the problem and the closer needs to be replaced. Other reasons for a door not closing include lock failure, misalignment of the door, or an improper installation.
